Les déboires de Pierre Sormany, directeur des émissions d’affaires publiques de Radio-Canada, ont débuté au lendemain de l’entrevue accordée par le patron de l’Unité anticollusion, Jacques Duschesneau, à Tout le monde en parle. Dans un message Facebook publié sur le profil public d’une collègue qui s’interrogeait sur l’identité des journalistes accusés d’intimidation par M. Duchesneau, le responsable de l’émission Enquête aurait indiqué qu’il s’agissait de « Jean Lapierre, ancien politicien et animateur-choc de TVA et LCN, mais qui offre aussi ses services-conseils en relations publiques et qui a parmi ses clients nul autre que son “ami” l’entrepreneur Antonio Accurso ».

[…] Jean Lapierre a nié en bloc ce qu’avance Pierre Sormany dans son message qui a été retiré depuis de l’internet. « Si ce n’était pas vrai à 150%, pensez-vous que j’irais m’asseoir dans la boîte pour prêter serment? », a soutenu le chroniqueur, joint hier. L’ancien ministre fédéral a toutefois indiqué qu’il connaissait très bien Tony Accurso. Les deux hommes fréquentent le même restaurant à Montréal, Milos, où ils ont déjà dîné ensemble. « Je tentais de le convaincre de venir à mon émission. » Jacques Duchesneau aurait été témoin de cette rencontre, a indiqué M. Lapierre.

[…] Cette poursuite intervient alors que le Groupe TVA et le Journal de Montréal ont envoyé, vendredi, une mise en demeure au patron de l’Unité anticollusion (UAC) afin qu’il « cesse de tenir des propos diffamatoires à leur égard ». Dans un entretien avec La Presse, Jacques Duchesneau avait accusé les médias de Quebecor d’avoir tenté de l’intimider au cours de son travail, ciblant Paul Laroque, Jean Lapierre et Andrew McIntosh.

Groupe TVA considère que ses professionnels de l’information ont su mener leurs enquêtes avec toute la rigueur nécessaire, en étayant leurs propos par des témoignages crédibles et des preuves irréfutables. « Nous allons continuer à faire notre travail même si ce travail peut déranger et nous ne tolérerons aucune atteinte à l’intégrité, à la probité et à la réputation de notre équipe journalistique que nous avons le devoir de défendre », de conclure Serge Fortin.

Groupe TVA a signifié à M. Duchesneau une mise en demeure l’enjoignant de cesser de tenir ces propos diffamatoires. Groupe TVA est à analyser la situation avec ses procureurs afin de déterminer les meilleurs recours qui s’offrent à lui.

In Toronto, activists say they plan to converge in the city’s financial district on Saturday Oct. 15. A tentative schedule on a website called Occupy Toronto says the occupation will begin at 10 a.m. ET that day. The group plans to use the weekend to organize itself and says it will wait to march on the streets until the Toronto Stock Exchange opens on Monday.

Canadian protests are also planned for Calgary, Vancouver, Victoria, Ottawa, Montreal, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, according to a website called Occupy Together.

The Toronto organizers are using the same rallying cry as those in New York, saying they are part of 99 per cent of people who are struggling while the wealthiest 1 per cent of the world’s population prospers.

For ultra-Orthodox Jews who shun secular newspapers, radio and the Internet, the best way to hear the news has long been by literally reading the writing on the wall.

The insular, strictly religious community still relies on black and white posters pasted up on walls in their neighborhoods to hear the latest rulings from important rabbis on modest dress, upcoming protests and the correct way to vote in elections.

[…] Kraus had been looking for a new place to store his collection. His library ceiling is crumbling. He stored posters in the cellar until mold destroyed dozens of them.

“It’s strange but I have no choice,” Kraus said. “I looked for years for someone to take it.”

The library staff agreed to lend him a scanner and computer with no connection to the Internet — largely banned by rabbinic decrees publicized by pashkevil. They then taught him to use it, as Kraus had never used a computer before. Soon, he was scanning and cataloging hundreds of the posters a day. The project cost about $27,000.

The library has put up 100 of the most striking posters in an exhibit. One warns against computer use by showing a Jewish boy turning into a horned beast after spending hours on one. Another provides a visual guide to women, warning against all the ways a shirt collar can be immodest.
